Perisphinctes Ammonite, fossil for sale from Madagascar. This eye-catching fossil measures 9.3cm at its widest measurement and has been slightly polished on top of its natural shell, which displays a mixture of light and chocolate-brown colours. Sourced from the Tulear region of Southern Madagascar, this well-preserved piece dates back to the Jurassic Period and is therefore approximately 163 million years old!
Various different species of Ammonite are found in this remote location, and the seas were once full of these molluscs. Ammonites are an extinct group of marine molluscs in the sub-class of Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopod.
