Mark continues to nurture his passion for all things stone-related by searching worldwide for new and exciting rocks and minerals to share with you all at Madagascan Direct.
Mark has passed his love for fossils and crystals onto his daughter, Alisha, who now works closely with the business as it continues to expand.
Our close-knit family team also includes Mark’s wife, Jenny, and Mark’s father, Gerald: as three generations working together, we put a lot of care and energy into our business.
Our History: Over Three Decades Of Minerals Expertise
Madagascan Direct: Beginning Our Crystals And Fossils Journey
Over 30 years ago, Madagascan Direct and Hidden Earth Ltd owner Mark Avis decided to transform his passion for fossils and crystals into a business, and began selling hand-picked minerals, crystals, and fossils from Madagascar.
Mark regularly travelled to Madagascar to select stunning fossils and crystals in person, carefully developing his keen eye for unique, high-quality minerals.
Eventually, crystal and fossil wholesaler Hidden Earth Ltd was born, and not long after that, Mark decided to also branch out into retail sales of crystals and fossils; online fossil shop and online crystal shop Madagascan Direct was thus created.
Hidden Earth Ltd and Madagascan Direct soon developed a reputation for selling unique fossils and crystals at affordable prices, both locally at our unit in England, and abroad.
For many years, Mark regularly sold high-quality crystals and fossils at rock and gem shows around the world, including the famous Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
Nowadays, Madagascan Direct and Hidden Earth Ltd operate solely from our UK base, whilst we continue to ship internationally.
Madagascan Direct: Growing Our Fossils And Crystals Range And Expertise
Although Madagascan Direct started out with sourcing crystals and fossils from Madagascar, such as high-grade Celestite, Copal with Insects, and Natural Citrine, the company slowly expanded to seek out a greater variety of minerals as supplies of these stones grew scarce.
Madagascan Direct continues to prioritise sourcing high-quality Labradorite, Quartz, and Ammonites from Madagascar, which have always been firm favourites of our customers.
Moving On: Crystals From All Over The World
Madagascan Direct has now branched out to finding exciting rocks and minerals from around the world, whilst maintaining our specialism in Madagascan minerals and fossils.
We have built an excellent relationship with a family of artisans in India, whom we work closely with to source rare crystals and minerals such as our bespoke Amethyst Agate range.
We also have strong connections with crystal suppliers in Brazil, where we have been sourcing some stunning Quartz Crystals, Amethyst, and Ametrine, amongst other high-quality crystals.
