Where Does Moss Agate Come From?

What Type Of Crystal Is Moss Agate?

Moss Agate (Tree Agate) is a type of Agate, which is a member of the Chalcedony group of stones, which in turn is a member of the larger Quartz family of minerals.

What Is Agate Made Of?

All types of Quartz, including microcrystalline Chalcedony, of which Agates are a form of, are composed from silica (otherwise known as silicon dioxide), and are therefore classed as Silicate Minerals

Agate is a translucent/ semi-translucent form of Banded Chalcedony which displays an array of colourful patterns, such as the striking dendritic patterns seen in Moss Agate (Tree Agate).

Other types of Chalcedony Gemstones include Jasper, the opaque variety of Chalcedony, and Carnelian, a unique red-orange form of Chalcedony.

What Is Moss Agate Made Of?

Moss Agate (Tree Agate) is distinguished from other types of Agate by its unique moss-like and tree-like dendritic patterns

Moss Agate Stones (Tree Agate Stones) are famously adorned with leafy green patterns resembling moss growth: these are the result of green dendritic mineral inclusions of manganese and iron within the stones.

Other Types Of Agate

Agate is a versatile stone which comes in many shapes, colours, and forms.

  • Purple Moss Agate embodies the energies of Green Moss Agate Stones whilst showcasing a stunningly unique purple hue: a Purple Moss Agate Stone makes a gorgeous aesthetic complement to the earthy green hues of Moss Agate (Tree Agate)

  • Cherry Blossom Agate (also known as Flower Agate) is one of the most popular types of Agate with its stunning colours and unique patterns resembling Cherry Blossom Flowers, and makes a great companion piece to Moss Agate (Tree Agate) due to their shared connections with nature
