What Is Labradorite Made Of?

Labradorite is a mineral of the plagioclase feldspar group, and this beautiful crystal consists of both albite and anorthite.

Similar feldspars include Sunstone, Moonstone, and Amazonite.

What Makes Labradorite Special?

Labradoresence, otherwise known as the Schiller effect, is Labradorite’s famous property. When exposed to light, the gem becomes a shimmering tapestry of colour.

Luminous blues, purples and greens sparkle and dance due to the refraction of light between the crystal’s many layers.

Golden hues, among other shades from the whole spectrum of colour, combine to create a glistening wonder unparalleled by any other crystal.

This iridescence is truly a marvel to behold.

Other Labradorite Types

Blue Labradorite showcases luminous blue flash, whilst Gold Labradorite demonstrates striking gold flash

Spectrolite is a name given to Labradorite specimens which display a broader spectrum of rich, intense colours. It was originally mined in Finland.

Purple Labradorite is a lovely variety of purple-coloured Labradorite which is prized for its pure, vibrant, purple flash as a purple gemstone

Rainbow Moonstone, otherwise referred to as White Labradorite, demonstrates a gorgeous silky-white background with flashes of blue iridescence.

Where Do You Find Labradorite?

Labradorite is most famously found in Canada, for it was named after the Canadian town of Labrador.

This unique stone is also found in Madagascar, where we carefully select our high grade Labradorite pieces from the best of the best.

Labradorite History

The natives of Paul's Island off the coast of Labrador have recounted a legend surrounding the origin of the Labradorescence phenomenon for centuries.

They tell the story of a legendary Inuit warrior who discovered that the Aurora Borealis had been stolen from the sky and imprisoned in the Labradorite gem.

Legend says that he smashed the stone with his spear, returning the Northern Lights to their home, but some light remained eternally encased in the crystal: this is how the phenomenon of Labradoresence came to be.

What Is Labradorite Used For?

Labradorite Crystal Healing Powers

Labradorite is believed to be a Stone of Transformation. Many crystal healers use it to help their clients cope with big changes in their lives, such as moving house or starting a new job.

For this reason, many people find it beneficial to keep a piece of Labradorite in their workplace.

A Labradorite Crystal Healing Stone is also used as an emotional balm, cutting stress levels with its calming qualities.

Labradorite Chakras And Labradorite Spirituality

Shamans and other people interested in the mystical realm have used this 'magic stone' to supplement their psychic powers for years.

Labradorite is most associated with the Crown Chakra and Third Eye Chakra.

When Labradorite is used as a Third Eye Chakra Crystal Healing Stone, it is said to help one find meaning, make good judgements, and see a path for their life.

When Labradorite is used as a Crown Chakra Crystal Healing Stone, it is said to intensify spirituality and to help access higher levels of consciousness.

Blue Labradorite is a stunning Blue Crystal which can also be used as a Throat Chakra Crystal Healing Stone to aid communication and speech.

Gold Labradorite is a striking Gold Crystal which can be used as a Sacral Chakra Crystal Healing Stone to enhance feelings of passion and creativity, as well as a Solar Plexus Chakra Crystal Healing Stone to boost mood and gain confidence.

This intensely spiritual stone is believed by crystal healers to help sleep problems: to heighten the meaning of dreams and lessen nightmares.

How Hard Is Labradorite?

Measuring 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, Labradorite as a Feldspar mineral is relatively hard and durable, but care should still be taken not to damage the crystal surface.

To clean the crystal, simply use water and a soft cloth.
