The colour of Garnet is often compared to the colour of Rubies, and for this reason, Garnet is sometimes referred to as Almandine Ruby.

How Hard Is Garnet?
Almandine Garnet measures 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness, which means that it is a very durable mineral resistant to scratching, but care should still be taken not to damage the crystal surface, especially if rough druzy crystals are exposed.
Garnet is a harder mineral than Quartz, but is still softer than the hardest minerals such as Ruby.
Garnet Crystal Care
It is not recommended to soak this Garnet Crystal in water, at the very least not for prolonged periods of time and not in salt water.
Although Almandine Garnet is a hard mineral on the Mohs Scale and therefore should be safe in water, Garnets often display natural crystal cavities and fissures which make the stone vulnerable to damage and breakage if the cavities absorb water during submersion.
To cleanse your Garnet Crystal, simple use a little bit of water and dry it afterwards with a cloth.
