Where Does Rutilated Quartz Come From? 

Rutilated Quartz is found in Titanium ores around the world, but the main sources of high-quality Rutilated Quartz Crystals are currently Madagascar and Brazil.

What Is Rutilated Quartz Made Of?

Rutilated Quartz is formed from a mixture of Quartz and mineral inclusions (named rutile), meaning it is a type of Quartz Inclusion Stone. 

Included in the stone's composition is silicon dioxide, which forms the Quartz, and titanium dioxide which form the rutile mineral inclusions seen in Rutilated Quartz as needle-like Rutile crystals.

How Hard Is Rutilated Quartz?

Rutilated Quartz measures approximately 7 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness. 

Although rutile minerals and Quartz can have different levels of hardness on the Mohs Scale (with Quartz measuring 7 on the Mohs Scale and Rutile measuring 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs Scale), both minerals are relatively hard and durable and therefore this stone is quite tough.
