What Is Dendritic Quartz Made Of?

Dendritic Quartz is formed from a mixture of Quartz and mineral inclusions (named dendrites).

Included in the stone's composition is silicon dioxide, which forms the Quartz, and manganese and iron inclusions which form the tree-like dendritic patterns seen in Dendritic Quartz. 

Dendritic mineral inclusions can also be found in a variety of Chalcedony minerals, for example in Moss Agate (otherwise known as Tree Agate), Purple Moss Agate, and Picture Jasper (otherwise known as Landscape Jasper).

Dendritic Quartz primarily includes delightfully transparent Clear Quartz.

This process has resulted in the piece shown here, whose dendritic manganese and iron oxide inclusions are enshrouded by the Clear Quartz.

Dendritic Quartz measures approximately 7 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness. 

Care should still be taken not to damage the crystal surface, especially the delicate pointed tips, which can easily chip if not handled carefully.
