Purple Moss Agate: Crystal Meaning and Information
We are excited to share a rare new crystal find with you all: Purple Moss Agate.
This beautiful purple crystal displays the same green moss-like patterns so revered in standard Moss Agate (Tree Agate) but instead of tree-like white and green colouring, Purple Moss Agate stuns with translucent Purple Chalcedony, ranging in hue from lilacs and lavenders to hints of deep indigo.
When lying flat on a surface, a Purple Moss Agate specimen displays a deep grape-purple hue, whilst when held up to the light, it displays a lovely subtle, lilac-grey translucency.
We have managed to source a small amount of this rare crystal from India, and are currently polishing the rough material into a variety of hand-polished crystal shapes, including Purple Moss Agate Pebbles (Purple Moss Agate Palm Stones), Purple Moss Agate Towers (Purple Moss Agate Obelisks) and Purple Moss Agate Slices.
What Is Purple Moss Agate Made Of?
Purple Moss Agate is made of Moss Agate with Purple Chalcedony.
As a variety of Moss Agate, Purple Moss Agate is in turn a type of Agate, which is a member of the Chalcedony group of stones, which in turn is a member of the large Quartz family of minerals.
All types of Quartz are composed from silica (otherwise known as silicon dioxide), but differ due to their crystal structures.
Chalcedony stones are microcrystalline in structure, which means the crystals inside the stone are invisible to the human eye: other Chalcedony gems include Jasper and Carnelian.
Moss Agate (Tree Agate) is famously adorned with leafy green patterns resembling moss growth: these are the result of green dendritic mineral inclusions of manganese and iron within the stone.
Other Types Of Agate
Agate is a versatile stone which comes in many colours, forms, and patterns.
Tree Agate is a specific form of Moss Agate which displays a milky white base with green dendritic inclusions that resemble the branches and leaves of a tree.
Cherry Blossom Agate, or Flower Agate, is another popular form of Agate. It displays stunning pink and cream colours with a unique pattern resembling Cherry Blossom flowers.
Other forms of Agate include Blue Lace Agate and colourful Crazy Lace Agate.
Where Does Purple Moss Agate Come From?
Although Moss Agate (Tree Agate) found in many countries worldwide including Brazil, Russia, and Australia, Purple Moss Agate is unique to India.
